Hi guys,
As mentioned with my last post, I’ve come up with a list of baby’s 1st year must haves. These are just things that worked for me. June bug is turning 2 this year already but pretty much everything I’ve mentioned here are things we still use every day! Everything is listed in no particular order and in no favor of preference and again, links are provided.
1.) Chicco Lullago Portable Bassinet $99.99
I seriously applaud any parent who attempts to start putting their infant baby in their own room for the 1st month (heck, the first few months). After dealing with pain and healing from your delivery, to lack of sleep, to the baby waking up every 2-3 hours to eat during the night….it really just wasn’t convenient for me to start sleep training my baby the 1st night and the first month we were home. It made things sooo much easier to have a little bed for her to sleep next to our bed. (I really don’t recommend sleeping with your infant on the same bed until he/she s much MUCH older). Having her own little bed next to ours helped saved us time and sleep. I couldn’t imagine having to wake up and walk across the hallway to her room half asleep and exhausted to feed or change her in the middle of the night! We got ours as a gift from my baby shower that was on our registry, this one is really easy to put together and break down, it also comes with a bag easy for traveling or in our case, when she slept over at her grandparents when we are both working nights. The mesh on the side also gives me reassurance that she has some sort of air flow passing through the bed.
2.) Tommee Tippee Baby Bibs $7.99
These bibs are the absolute best. Prior to purchasing these, June would use regular cloth bibs and after eating, I would have a mess to clean up because food would not only get on her but all over the floor. These bibs pretty much pick up every little thing that would naturally fall down. And such simple clean up, you just grab the bib and empty it in the trash and wash the bib in the sink.
3.) Ingenuity Trio 3-in-1 Deluxe $99.99
This is an easy no brainer must have. We use ours EVERYDAY. This one was also on our baby shower registry. It’s a 3 in 1! Meaning you can also remove the seat from the high chair to place it on a regular dining chair. I remember the first day June was able to sit in it properly and I fed her the first bite of sweet potatoes!! Where has time gone????
4.) Baby Jogger City Mini GT Travel System in Charcoal (car seat included) $599.99
A stroller is also another no brainer, must have. However, it doesn’t have to be this one! I think any stroller will do, this is just the one my husband wanted to purchase. We wanted to invest in a good one so we purchased this ourselves as it is on the pricier side. I about 80% love this one. The only complaints I would have is that it being an already expensive stroller, I wish everything came with it… (cup holder, etc). All accessories you wish to have, you must purchase separately.
5.) Davinci Jenny Changing Table (pink) $89.99
I am a little sad that Babies R Us is closing and so I cannot find the original link to the original changing table I purchased, so this one on Wayfair is the most similar to ours. This also seems like another no-brainer but working in the field I do, you’ll be surprised by how many moms come in after delivering saying they have back pain and if I ask them if they are bending down frequently to change the baby’s diaper, they say yes. And if I mention a changing table to them, most of them look surprised. Having a newborn is difficult enough with the healing process but to constantly be bending down 5-6 or sometimes even more times a day to change a diaper – can cause a lot of stress to your lower back. Having a changing table changes the game of having to change a diaper and will help your back tremendously.
6.) Triple Paste Diaper Rash Ointment $19.79
I remember the first time my baby had a diaper rash, I literally wanted to cry. It looked so painful and the worst part is, it doesn’t just go away in a day. When I first discovered June had a diaper rash, I used all the cream we received as gifts during our baby shower with no success. I went to read online reviews and found this one. It’s pricey for a diaper cream but worth every. single. penny. I’ve gone through 4 jugs of this thing.
7.) Vicks Sweet Dreams Humidifier $47.99
This is also another must have. It really sucks when you have a sick baby, you wish you could do more for them when you see them struggling while coughing or breathing. A humidifier gives me a peace of mind that I can at least comfort them in some way. I am really surprised by these reviews on here! Ours have worked great for us without any problems. And thank you for 24 hour Walgreens!
8.) Fit & Fresh Kids Squeezable Water Bottle 12oz $5.99
I don’t use this as much now since June is now sipping through straws however this water bottle was so useful when she didn’t know how to sip yet and only knew how to suck. I purchased this prior to our 4 almost 5 hour hike when she was not even 1 yet– so easy to use as you can squirt a little bit in their mouth so they don’t have to use any effort to suck or sip. Plus it does not leak!
9.) Philips Avent Natural Baby Bottles $17.50
Prior to having June I knew bottles were gonna be a big one because I knew I was going to be picky about them. I tried a few brands and these ones were easily my favorite. I also love how you can buy the nipples separately on the flow of milk you want to come out.
10.) WubbaNub Pacifier $13.99
My baby was one of those who needed a binky/pacifier and I didn’t care if I was judged for it. I will say that having a pacifier is like having good and evil in the house. When they have it, they are calm and sweet. And when they need it and can’t find it, omg mommy, better have a spare one ready! That is why I love this pacifier. The little stuffed animal on it helps us find it very easily if it gets lost.
So whether if you’re a first time mommy or a mommy who is looking to try something different, I hoped this post helped a little bit.
